60% more energy
Studies indicate that those who took micro-breaks had about 60% better odds of feeling energetic Show less
Micro-breaks (less than 10 min pauses from tasks) are efficient in preserving high levels of vigor and alleviating fatigue.
From a practical perspective, these results offer strong support that taking short breaks during working hours is beneficial for individuals’ health and productivity.
6-to-1 return on investment
For every dollar spent on employee wellness, medical costs fall $3.27 and absenteeism drops $2.73. Show less
In a critical meta-analysis of the literature on costs and savings associated with such programs, Harvard professors found that medical costs fall by about $3.27 for every dollar spent on wellness programs and that absenteeism costs fall by about $2.73 for every dollar spent.
Although further exploration of the mechanisms at work and broader applicability of the findings is needed, this return on investment suggests that the wider adoption of such programs could prove beneficial for budgets and productivity as well as health outcomes.

A 2013 study tested surgeons' ability to "draw" a star with scissors. Those who had microbreaks (and did some stretches during this break) performed the task with seven times fewer mistakes than those who hadn't.
