New point system
In the past year, we made numerous changes to our gamification system but realized it had become overly complicated. We had features like jokers, streaks, configurable rest days, and streak flames... it was a bit much.
So, we decided to go back to the drawing board.
Our main goals were:
- Simplify the system
- Prevent user frustration when skipping a day
- Make it fun and engaging for both occasional and frequent users of Pausly
Introducing: a brand new level and point system.
We won't delve into all the details in this blog post, but here are the basics:
- Every user starts at level 1.
- Users earn a certain amount of points for each completed session.
- Once a user reaches 1000 points, they level up.
- Each day that at least one session is completed, a multiplier is increased, making it easier to gain points over time.
- However, if no sessions are completed on a day, the multiplier decays slightly.
- Points (or levels) are now permanent and cannot be lost or decreased.
For more information, you can refer to the help pages.
What happens to existing users?
The points and levels of all existing users have been calculated, taking into account every completed session since they signed up for Pausly. So the level you currently have reflects your progress accurately.
What does this replace?
As mentioned earlier, one of the primary objectives of these changes was to simplify the overall user experience. Consequently, we have decided to remove the following features:
- Jokers
- Rest days (including special configurations for companies with a 4-day workweek)
- Streaks
- Streak flames
These concepts were initially introduced to mitigate the impact of skipping a day. However, since skipping a day no longer results in any loss other than the multiplier, we believe that they are no longer necessary.
While we may reintroduce streaks in some form in the future, our current focus is on finding the right balance between simplicity and keeping it fun.
We understand that we have made many changes in the short lifetime of Pausly, but we hope that you can appreciate the benefits of everything we have experimented with over time.
Happy pausing!
